Allston Burr Resident Dean, Kirkland House and Assistant Dean of Harvard College
Lecturer in Government

Hello, Kirkland! I am your Resident Dean, which means that I am here to support and advise you during your time in Kirkland House. I am entrusted with your academic success and personal wellbeing, and I am excited to be a resource to you as you navigate all that Harvard College and Kirkland House have to offer. My role is to advise, coach, mentor, and support you in whatever ways will help you make the most out of your time here, so please never hesitate to reach out at kirklandhousedean@fas.harvard.edu.

Prior to Harvard, I completed a Ph.D. in Politics at Brandeis University. My research and teaching interests include WMD/nuclear nonproliferation, grand strategy, and global security issues. I graduated from the University of Alabama, where I studied philosophy, and I hold a professional master’s degree in international affairs from Texas A&M University. I also worked at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) for many years, where I managed residential summer academic programs at several college campuses.

I am joined in D entryway by my wife Kat Veach, who is the Assistant Dean for First Year Academic Programs in the Harvard College Office of Undergraduate Education. She holds a Ph.D. in religion from Claremont Graduate University. We spent time as proctors in Crimson Yard before moving to Kirkland. Additionally, I was a military brat and lived in several U.S. states—as well as abroad—so I understand firsthand the challenges of transitioning into new, unfamiliar environments. During our free time, Kat & I enjoy birdwatching, playing board games, watching Premier League and college football, and cooking together. Come by my office to borrow a sci-fi/fantasy novel, to ask about a weird bird you saw, or just to grab some gummy bears and have a chat!
